STEP-BY-STEP SERIES

Step by Step Series

“The Upper Arlington Computer Group would like to thank Computer Literacy Press for the help and outstanding service provided us over the last three years. We have studied many books, but find that the ‘Step by Step’ books offered by CLP are the ones most understood and used by our senior citizen students. Many of our students came to the first class with other books they had purchased and then bought the Step by Step books when they saw how much better they were. They enable the students to carry on their learning process at home between classes. The range of topics carried by you also allows us to continue to add to our curriculum knowing that a good publication will be available. Thank you for helping us promote computer literacy to the older adults of the Upper Arlington area.” Bill Baskwill, Chairman, Computer Group, Upper Arlington Senior Association, Upper Arlington, OH

AppleWorks 6.0

Having used your step-by-step books for Mac and PC, through various versions of MS Works, ClarisWorks, and Office, I continue to find they are perfect texts for introductory tech classes. The clean, easy-to-follow format has helped many emerging, technology-using teachers gain confidence and loose their fear. I will certainly use AW6 when I teach my next intro class.Joan Hamilton, Adjunct Faculty, Lesley College, Sedona, AZ

 AppleWorks/ClarisWorks 5.0 and Microsoft Office 98

“As a trainer of teachers, I find these books to be invaluable. The clear, concise directions allow for group teaching as well as individual use. Then the books become a valuable resource for the teacher back in his/her classroom. I have used the Step by Step books before and will continue to make them required materials in my workshops and graduate courses.”—Randy Edinger, Technology Facilitator, Educational Service Center, Anoka-Hennepin ISD 11, Coon Rapids, MN

AppleWorks/ClarisWorks 5.0 and Microsoft Office 97

Both of these books are excellent. They break down the material in small enough chunks to be readily absorbed by my middle school students. Each step is simply, but fully, explained so that the students can follow along independently at their own rate. I love them! Kathleen Stewart, Instructional Technology Specialist, White Brook Middle School, Easthampton, MA

AppleWorks/ClarisWorks 5.0

[This book has] the same features that make your other publications so useful: crisp, clean, uncluttered format; concise, yet complete directions; good placement of screen shots; 'byte' sized lessons doable in 'bits' of time; top of page reminder of what is required; book is not too large (most are huge and heavy!); spiral bound to take up less desk space... Monna Greenstreet, Computer Teacher/Tech Team Leader/Workshop Presenter, Hillside Middle School, Manchester, NH

Microsoft Office 2000 and Windows 98

Eureka! These workbooks are a perfect resource for anyone teaching or learning a new software application. As the name implies, these workbooks are 'step by step,' and best of all, they actually start with the very first step. The Windows 98 workbook begins '1. Start computer' and then tells you how. Every page contains screen-shots so that you can be sure you are in the right place. Sidebars give helpful tips and alternate methods for accomplishing the same task. I found both books very easy to read and follow. Sherry Zorzi, Computer Trainer and Consultant, Cajun Clickers Computer Club, Baton Rouge, LA

Microsoft Office 2000

Book is well organized  - directions are very clear.  It has the added benefit of being able to be used as an excellent reference tool after initial use as an Instruction Guide. Theresa Vendrzyk Kough, Instructor, Wilmington College, New Castle, DE

Excellent combination of programs Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access. Concise and love the graphics. Easy for Junior High students to follow.—Dory Tavener, Teacher, Needville Middle School, Needville, TX

Microsoft Office 98

Love, Director, Instructional Communications Center , Educational Media & Technology, Malone College, Canton, OH

“I have used the MSWorks Windows Version 4.0/4.5 with seniors and am pleased that the new version maintains the high quality…”—Janice Santos, Instructor, SeniorNet Learning Center of San Jose, San Jose, CA

Windows 98 and Microsoft Office 97

“Wonderful books. They are easy to read and follow.  A great resource for Title I students.” Sheryl Hoddix, Title I, North Loup/Scotia Public Schools, Scotia, NE

Windows 95

“This workbook includes not only the techniques of working with Programs, Files and Disks, and Customizing Windows 95, it is a primer for learning how to use the excellent programs that are part of the Windows 95 package i.e., WordPad, NotePad, and Paint.  Warning, there are no jokes and you will have to accept the fact that you are not going to be called a ‘Dummy,’ but I will guarantee that you will soon be able to do something with your computer besides playing solitaire.” Al Winchell, President, South-West Florida PC Users Group, Fort Myers, FL (Reprinted with permission from Personal Computing Journal)

I will use this textbook in future classes. Judy Molina, Instructor, Ottawa University, Kansas City, MO

Our district upgraded to Win98 and Office 2000 over the summer. We were not prepared for the change. This workbook/textbook irons out all the little differences in procedures from Office 97. I have used it with students and with teacher in-service sessions. Power Point and Excel are very nicely laid out.  Gail Vittitoe, Computer Applications & Computer Literacy Teacher, Coakley Middle School, Harlingen, TX

CURRICULUM SERIES

“We were searching for some materials that would provide specific curricula guidelines for integration of technology into the core subject areas: English, Social Studies, Math, and Science…[Your representative] showed me the Writing with Computers book and I brought it back to Chesapeake.  Our core subject supervisors previewed the materials and were very pleased.  We decided to provide at least one resource copy for any school housing grades 4-8. Our state Standards of Learning in Technology are tested at grades 5 and 8, which influenced our placement of materials.  As I am delivering the copies of Math with Computers, Social Studies with Computers, Writing with Computers, and Internet Exploration: Activities & Concepts, everyone who receives them seems excited…[We] are looking forward to trying out the lesson plans.” Dr. Cynthia W. Sparks, Supervisor of Instructional Technology, Chesapeake Public Schools, Chesapeake, VA

INTERNET APPLICATIONS

FrontPage 2000: A Hands-On Guide

“Having instructed a number of teacher workshops on FrontPage '98 and now FrontPage 2000, I was extremely impressed with Computer Literacy Press' newest addition of instructional workbooks, Microsoft FrontPage 2000: A Hands-On Guide. By focusing on the use of templates and color modification of the templates for individual preferences, [you] have provided an extremely user-friendly workbook for educators. Designing web sites, without the hassle of learning complicated HTML language, is easily accomplished with this tutorial. Chapters clearly isolate components of web design, allowing the web designer to select those features that he/she intends to incorporate in the web page.” Cathy Deardoff, Instructor/Consultant, SOITA (Southwestern Ohio Instructional Technology Association), Franklin, OH

Internet Exploration: Activities & Concepts

“One of the best Internet workbooks for students that I have seen. The simple language to explain complex concepts will make this book usable by grades 6 and up.  Kathleen Schrock, Technology Coordinator, Dennis-Yarmouth Regional Schools, S. Yarmouth, MA

PROGRAMMING

Microsoft Visual Basic FUNdamentals

I found this book to be clearly written, well constructed and organized, and enjoyable to read. I feel it is a very good choice for the target audience (first-time programming in middle school, high school, and community college)...The practical examples and guidance on the use of the Visual Basic Controls was especially good...The emphasis on making learning fun is a big plus, and the book is very well done overall. Richard Conn, Adjunct Professor, Computer Science & Information Systems, Kennesaw State University, Atlanta, GA

Looks great. Fun way to teach programming! Lots of programs. Starts at beginning, moves slow enough for average student, but has plenty of enrichment for high level. Gloria Bond, Computer Teacher, Bath High School, Bath, MI

“…Diving into the challenge [of leaning Visual Basic] was made easier with the quick reading and examples provided in [Microsoft Visual Basic Fundamentals]. The suggested projects are both fun and challenging! A student working on the Visual Basic for independent study was able to write a program in a matter of minutes with minimal instruction from me, given the aid of the book…”—Kristi Harris, Math/Computer Teacher, Wawasee High School, Syracuse, IN
